Epic Games has announced Unreal Engine 5, along with a PS5 demo and news of its release.
As revealed this morning on the Summer Game Fest, Unreal Engine 5 will demonstrate new lighting, movie-quality asset support and more.
A nine minute tech demo featuring live gameplay on the PS5 console was also released.
The ‘Lumen in The Land of Nanite’ demo showcased the potential of the engine. In the fully-playable demo, a female protagonist is seen journeying through a deserted temple landscape.
More information on the specifics of the engine can be found on the Unreal Engine website. Furthermore, the blog post mentions a new initiative waiving the first million dollars of royalties for developers using the Unreal Engine.
Unreal Engine 5 will release for preview in early 2021, with a full release later in the year. In addition, the engine will support next-generation consoles, current-generation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.
