While two of the three new Nintendo Selects entries for 3DS are not hard to come by in retail stores, one is a welcome addition and might help collectors and gamers grab a historic game in 3D.
The first and most exciting entry for 2019’s discounted “Greatest Hits” Nintendo collection is an absolute must-have from the Nintendo 64 days. Star Fox 64 3D invites players to take on the role of legendary Fox McCloud, as they lead a fearless squadron of fighters in fierce aerial combat to battle the evil forces of Andross and save the galaxy from destruction. The rich 3D visuals provide a remarkable sense of depth, distance, and position, as players dodge meteors and blast enemy fighters out of the sky.
There are two control methods for the player to experience. The Nintendo 64 Mode offers original controls, while the new Nintendo 3DS Mode uses the motion controls of the built-in Gyro Sensor of the Nintendo 3DS system. This allows you to relive the glory days of the 64, or play in a new way that takes advantage of the 3DS’s unique play styles.
The next entry for Nintendo Selects on the 3DS is a Wii U port, and a good one at that. Super Mario Maker for the 3DS is a fantastic way to make the Mario levels you always wanted. Want your cannons to shoot coins? How about 9 Bowsers at the end of the level out to get you? Go for it! In this game, you call the shots, and simple touch-screen controls and interactive tutorials make designing courses a snap. Hopefully, this game makes it to the Switch, but for now, on-the-go Mario mayhem is now available at a discount.
Finally, another port from the Nintendo 64 rounds out the newest entries to Nintendo Selects. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is a classic that built on the engine of Ocarina of Time, but completely reinvented the structure of the series. The Skull Kid embodies the mischief and mystery of the Lost Woods, but now a cursed mask has transformed him into something far more terrifying.
When he tricks Link into entering a land called Termina, the Hero of Time faces an urgent challenge in a strange, new land: stop the moon from ending the world in three days. Don’t panic! You’ll have some time-twisting tunes and magical masks to help you make it to tomorrow. If you enjoy gaming history, and this one isn’t under your belt yet, grab it now for a discount.
All Nintendo Selects titles are $20 and are labeled with a special banner signifying their entry to this “Greatest Hits” of gaming.
