Earlier today, Sony announced a new partnership with online communication service Discord.
As part of the partnership, Sony will “bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year.” The two companies are currently “hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network.”
It’s unknown if this means an official Discord app for PlayStation consoles is on the way or if we’ll see the ability to connect your PSN sign-in with your Discord sign-in.
Either way, Sony complimented the announcement by saying it invested an undisclosed sum into Discord’s Series H investment round. That means Sony is now a minority investor in Discord.
Discord was reportedly in advanced talks to sell to Microsoft for $10 billion. However, Discord reportedly backed out of the talks after it decided to remain an independent company.
