THQ Nordic is remastering Red Faction Guerrilla for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Titled Red Faction Re-Mars-Tered, it will be launching in the second quarter of 2018. Seeing as we are entering the second quarter of the year, that means the game will be releasing in the next few months. The big updates coming to the new release are:
- Updated textures
- Improved shadow and light rendering
- Updated shaders
- Post-processing Rework
- Native 4K support, for systems that can support it.
All of the updates mean it will be a much more visually pleasing game, with better explosions, for a highly destructive game. Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-Tered will ultimately run smoother and look better. There were problems with the original release of Red Faction Guerrilla, which had framerate issues during sequences with major explosions and destruction on screen.
Red Faction Guerrilla is known as an incredibly destructible game, featuring large buildings that can be brought down with properly placed bombs and various attacks with unique Sci-Fi weapons. Having it remastered onto stronger systems means the destruction will look better, run better, and the physics engine will have the power to work harder for a more satisfying experience.
THQ Nordic has previously released a remastered version of both the Darksiders games for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. With the remasters both selling well, THQ Nordic is developing the third game in the Darksiders franchise. If Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-Tered does well enough THQ Nordic may announce a new game for the Red Faction series, instead of a remastered version of the poorly rated Red Faction Armageddon that resulted in millions worth of losses.
