On an updated PlayStation Support page, Sony provided more specifics on what backward compatibility for PlayStation 4 titles will look like on the PlayStation 5.
In terms of compatible titles, the “overwhelming majority” of PS4 titles will work on the PS5. Some games will even benefit from the PS5’s Game Boost feature, giving the games a higher frame rate.
There are some considerations, however. Some PS4 games might exhibit errors or unexpected behavior when played on the PS5. Also, some PS4 functionality will not work on the PS5. This includes the Share menu for PS4 titles, PS4 tournaments, In-Game Live from PlayStation, and the PS4 Second Screen app.
As a result, Sony cautions you should boot and play your PS4 game on the PS5 before buying any add-ons. Sony also cautions certain titles will not work on the PS5. These titles include:
- Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Joe’s Diner
