The release of Mario Tennis Aces isn’t too far away, but if you’re itching to get on the court with the Mushroom Kingdom gang, a pre-launch online tournament is underway and available for free download on the eShop. The demo opened June 1st and will close June 3rd at 11:59 pm PST.
Announced back in March during a Nintendo Direct, the tournament is meant to give players an idea of what the game will look like and hopefully build hype ahead of its June 22nd release. A recent update to the game’s website outlined its extensive game modes, including the return of a story mode. For the first time since the GBA’s Mario Tennis: Power Tour, players will be able to follow what the game has titled Adventure Mode. For fans of the popular Wii Sports tennis game, a motion-controlled Swing Mode has been added as well using the Joy-Cons.
If you plan on picking up the game after some fun with the pre-launch tourney, Nintendo is hoping you’ll consider a pre-order, and have added a little bonus to those who pre-purchase Mario Tennis Aces. You can receive a bonus of 300 My Nintendo Gold Points when you pre-purchase the digital version of the Mario Tennis Aces game through Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com.
Pre-launch events have worked well for other Nintendo games on the Switch. The ARMS Test-Punch has taken place a few times as of now and has helped spur additional sales of the new robotic-fighting IP. Splatoon 2 has also hosted multiple events known as a Splatfest aimed at bringing new players to the ink-splattered multiplayer shooter that is hosting a major tournament during the World Championships June 12th during E3.
