Mario + Rabbids: KB to go Competitive

One year after Mario had to start dealing with an invasion of Rabbids on the Nintendo Switch in the turn-based strategy game Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Ubisoft has announced that they will be hosting a worldwide Community Competition for players of this cartoon mashup.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle surprised, well, everyone with its mix of XCOM gameplay and quirky storyline. It even made the Rabbids characters from Ubisoft a little less cringey. Now, the game is moving into the competitive sphere with interesting tournaments and prizes. These modes include Dash Only, One-Turn Run, and Secondary Weapons Only. Prizes include a trip to Ubisoft’s development studio in Paris, tickets to Gamescom, and bags of assorted merchandise goodies.

Ubisoft is inviting players to join its worldwide Community Competition. From December 2018 and throughout 2019, the best of the best will join the Winter Games, Spring Games, and Summer Games; three seasons through which the developers will challenge players to dive one more time into some of the game’s battles and beat them under specific conditions. Complete the challenges for each season and get a chance to compete against the most skillful players in a Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle Versus tournament at the development studios in Paris and Milan.

Ubisoft did not note how progress for competitors will be tracked or what each specific challenge will entail. We’ll have to wait for more information, presumably on registration day. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is available for the Nintendo Switch, and frequently on sale, so be on the lookout. To participate in the tournament, people only need the base game and do not need the Donkey Kong Adventure expansion.

Something like this might spur a competitive scene for a game many underestimated, and a must-own on the Switch.
