Halo Developer Will Donate Microtransaction Revenue to NAACP

343 Industries also announced its support for Black Lives Matter

In a statement posted on TwitterHalo developer 343 Industries announced its stance against racism and support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

To that end, 343 Industries will donate all proceeds garnered from Halo 5: Guardians REQ Pack purchases between June 19 and July 19. The proceeds will go to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. These aren’t random dates — the Emancipation Proclamation was read to enslaved Black people on June 19, 1865 and changed their legal status from slave to free.

343 Industries goes on to say, “We also know we have work to do in our own backyard to combat racist behavior in our games. Racism, bigotry, and hate speech have no place in Halo and we will enforce our zero-tolerance policy with every means at our disposal.”

The statement is in response to George Floyd’s murder and subsequent protests across the U.S. Other game companies also issued statements on the current state of affairs, with some going above and beyond.
