During its latest financial earnings call, Take-Two Interactive announced Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 140 million copies. It’s the second-best selling video game of all time, with only Minecraft selling more copies.
Take-Two said 2020 was Grand Theft Auto V‘s best year since launch in terms of sales. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic likely played a role in the increased sales, since more folks stayed at home.
The ongoing success of GTA Online also played a role. Rockstar continues to update the mode with new content, with the recent Cayo Perico Heist update including the titular heist, a new island, a new nightclub, new vehicles, new weapons, and more.
Grand Theft Auto V sales numbers will likely continue to climb in 2021, thanks to the game’s impending launch on the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5. All three consoles will also get a standalone version of GTA Online later this year.
