On its website yesterday, Epic Games announced the upcoming live event and Season 3 for Fortnite has been delayed. The live event The Device will now debut June 15, while Season 3 will launch June 17.
“Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of color. We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing,” reads the statement in part.
“We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics.”
The delays are in response to George Floyd’s murder by a Minneapolis police officer. Protests and riots have cropped up across the U.S. since then. Game companies have delayed events and announcements to allow space for conversations about police brutality against Black people.
