In December, it was announced that Splatoon 2 would cease producing any new content, including weapons, maps, and other add-ons, outside of Splatfests. That appears to be false, according to an announcement by Nintendo of a new week-long event.
A slew of weapons from the original Splatoon game for Wii U are making a return. Those weapons include the following: the Aerospray PG, N-ZAP ’83, Grim Range Blaster, Cherry H-3 Nozzlenose, Soda Slosher, Heavy Splatling Remix, Sploosh-o-Matic 7, Fresh Squiffer, Permanent Inkbrush, and Bamboozler 14 Mk III.
There is no date for these weapons releasing into the game, but it’s safe to say it will be a nice surprise for seasoned Inklings who assumed weapon additions were over. While the date of the weapons drop is not known, a week-long demo is scheduled for March 26th until April 1st. This demo will give players access to all team shooter modes, including ranked play. You will be able to carry stats and experience over to the full game after the demo.
Splatoon 2 is expected to cease its rollout of Splatfests in July of this year, but that’s no excuse to not pick up the game. Online matchmaking for Splatoon 2 is still questionable; the fact that it is so hard to play with your friends is counterintuitive for an online multiplayer shooter in 2019. That being said, I play online solo quite a bit, and since launch, I have found Splatoon 2 to be a great time. With three minute matches and different ways to contribute to your team, it is likely that everyone can play a role in online matchups.
It’s still incredibly easy to pick this game up and play, although it is one that I wish I would have picked up digitally. Nevertheless, I’ve played Splatoon 2 more than any game on the Switch, so give it a try! You might be surprised to find a severely underrated multiplayer shooter hidden behind all the paintbrushes and squid kids.
