Amazon, an e-commerce company and the largest internet company by revenue, seem to have set their sights on the video game industry for 2019. Amazon Game Studios (AGS), a division of Amazon, (which has been around since August 7, 2012) primarily made application based video games for their first six years of existence. That is, until this year.
Earlier this year on January 15, AGS Seattle released The Grand Tour Game, an episodic racing game based on the Amazon Prime original British television series, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. AGS Seattle also plans on dipping their toe in the popular battle-royale genre with Crucible.
“Crucible is a third-person, last one standing game of trust and betrayal. Each match pits human and alien competitors with unique weapons and abilities against one another on a lush, alien world. Players make and break alliances on the fly. In Crucible it takes a mix of combat skill, strategic planning, and social finesse to survive,” Explains the amazongames.com page on Crucible. AGS is not done there, however. New World, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), is currently in its alpha mode. The sandbox MMO, made by AGS Orange County, will be set in a supernatural version of 17th century Northern America. Players will be able to choose how they wish to play, who they want to play and who they want to play with. Do you play a farmer in a thriving new civilization with tons of allies, or a lone wolf stealing from said civilization slowly building their own empire? The choice is yours. The ever-changing seasons, time, and weather will ensure plenty of variety throughout your quest to take over the new world. Click here to sign up for the alpha and just like Crucible, no official release date has been given.
